History
The Circle Bar B Guest Ranch and Stables has been in operation for over 70 years. In the late 1930's, Florence F. Brown established the Circle Bar B in Refugio Canyon, just north of Goleta and Santa Barbara.
Before opening the Circle Bar B, Florence, in the 1920's and 1930's, operated a guest ranch near Los Alamos, 30 miles north of Refugio Canyon. Los Alamos was then in the middle of farmland. Now, Los Alamos is in the heart of the booming Central Coast wine country.
In the late 1930's Florence was drawn to Refugio Canyon on Santa Barbara's scenic Gaviota Coast, because of the comfortable year-round climate, the dramatic mountain views, and the beautiful scenery. She fell in love with the area, purchased the property, and opened the Circle Bar B.
Horses have always been a big part of the Brown family's history, which spans three centuries in Southern California.
In the late 1800's, the Brown family's ancestors raised horses on their ranch in the Coachella Valley. At that time, they were also involved in the livery stable business in the Los Angeles area and in the nearby Ojai Valley. Today, the Browns continue to carry on the long-time family association with horses. They enjoy sharing this experience with people from all over the world.
